Antitrust, Trade and Competition

Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega has long been recognized as a leader in the antitrust, trade and competition areas. The firm has extensive experience representing clients from a variety of industries and on a wide range of regulatory matters.

The firm has a very successful track record of securing antitrust clearance for business combinations in the face of heightened scrutiny of such transactions by the Authority for Consumer Protection and Competition Defense. In particular, the firm has cleared numerous mergers and acquisitions through the Authority for Consumer Protection and Competition Defense, including landmark cases, such as the Banco General – Banco Continental merger, which resulted in the largest Panamanian-owned bank.

Working together with expert litigators from our Litigation Practice Group, lawyers in this area have successfully defended clients against the increasing enforcement activities of the Authority for Consumer Protection and Competition Defense.

In the areas of trade and competition, the firm regularly advises clients in connection with unfair competition practices, dumping, government subsidies, tariffs, import and export barriers and international free trade agreements.

One of our expert lawyers in this area acted as Chief Trade Negotiator for the Republic of Panama and successfully negotiated bilateral free trade agreements with the United States, Singapore and Chile.
